Faery Rag Doll #5

Most of the time anything I make is given away as a gift, however this faery rag doll is one of the few things I have made and kept for myself. If you couldn't already tell her home is on my bookshelf, where she spends her days amongst some of my favourite books. (Mostly those by Brian Froud).

As with my other faery rag dolls, this doll was made with big embroidered ears, floppy wings and a soft stuffed body. She also has the same black safety eyes and blanket stitched hair, however this faery has a little something extra, an embroidered red flower stitched to the lower corner of her dress.

The full size of this faery is about 24cm from head to toe and her wing span is about 16cm, making her a comfortable size for either a decorative piece or an interactive plaything. I just love how minimal and innocent these dolls look with just their eyes to convey their personalities and cuteness.

These faery rag dolls are a favourite of mine and, as I previously mentioned, I hope to make more in other themes and magical beings when I get the time. I have made patterns for mermaids and gnomes, and have even completed a gnome that I will share soon. (Although you can see a sneak peek at this gnome in my blogs banner).

Despite having her guardian Artemis (the cat) with her, she spent so long fighting alone that she forgot what it was to be a part of a team and the value of friendship. When eventually she reunited with Sailor Moon and the sailor scouts she once again found where she belonged as leader of inner senshi.

Dress Pillows #1

I have a few nieces and nephews that I make gifts for and these, as this was the first of a few that were bundled together with a ribbon, were made for a couple of two year old girls. My sister had some baby clothes from her little girl that she wanted to keep as they were favourites, but she didn't just want to sit them in a box somewhere, so I thought why not make them into super cute and unique pillows. So that's what's I did, I made literal Dress Pillows.

It was really simple to make these Dress Pillows, I hand stitched the bottom edge and two sleeves of the dress while inside-out, then turned it right-side-out and stuffed. I began to stitch the neck and stuffed them some more, before adding even more stuffing before closing up the neck hole. I have added the tag 'dolls' to this post because, although these clearly are not doll's, my niece plays with them as though they are, she even has tea parties with these Dress Pillows.

As the new girl it is hard enough fitting in, but when your stature and outfit mark you as different and rumours and gossip follow you around it can be almost impossible to find a place where you belong. However it is this difference, her strength, fast reflexes and independent nature that will allow her find true friendship amongst the sailor scouts and her true self as Sailor Jupiter.
