Henry the Cat / Crookshanks (inspired by the Harry Potter Series)

This mini fat cat spends his days sitting on my bookshelf keeping a watchful eye on goings-on from his high perch, unlike Henry (my other ginger cat) who spends his days lazing about mostly curled up on my lap now that the winter chill is finally settling in. Initially I had made this cat with Henry in mind but I decided, being a ginger, he could also be a substitute for the half-Kneazle Crookshanks.

This little ginger cat is about 5.5 inches tall not including the ears, that is a bit over half the size of the original pattern which would produce a huggable pillow sized toy. However I wanted something smaller to sit on my shelf and be cute and small. Made of an orange fabric that was once a dress, with white accents and tiny black eyes he is finished with black backstitched whiskers and mouth.

As a shelf sitting cat he is a cute mini fat cat, but I'm sure there are better cat patterns out there that could be used to create Hermione's half-Kneazle Crookshanks. I also think this pattern works best at its full size as the animal pillow toy it was designed to be, especially for younger owners. Despite this I'm still quite happy with my little ginger cat. This pattern was found HERE in the Shiny Happy World shop.

Pigwidgeon 'Pig' (inspired by the Harry Potter Series)

This tiny grey hooting owl was flying madly about the room for ages showing off before he calmed down long enough for me to collect the message tied to his leg. Of cause I knew immediately who this little ball of energy was, Pigwidgeon, or Pig as Ron calls him. Although I think Harry was spot on when he called Pig a "fluffy snitch". But for such a tiny little owl to fly so far, he certainly deserved an owl treat or two.

The owl treats box was made in the shape of a sultana box and you can guess what it is filled with... Saltanas. Pig loves them of cause. Pigwidgeon himself was created from a grey fabric offset with a white face and under wings and a black beak and feet. His face piece was actually cut with pinking shears to give a more textured feathered look. Pig was then finished with yellow safety eyes.

This cute little owl was made from a pattern I found online when searching owl patterns. I wanted something small and cute to capture Pigwidgeon's personality and this is what I found. Obviously a type of furred or similar textured fabric would look better, however I used only what I had on hand which was this grey material. Overall I was pleased with how he turned out and his new owner is too.

Baby Mooncalf (inspired by the Harry Potter Series)

This shy little creature was spotted dancing under the full moon, however as the morning approached he was separated from his herd as they made their way back to the burrow. Lost and alone he instead followed me home, which I couldn't be more happy about, but he belongs with his own kind and next full moon I plan to make sure he finds his way home.

With his long neck, large eyes, flat feet and cute little tail, this Mooncalf was one creature I just had to make. Disappointingly, I could not find any type of pattern for this fantastic beast, so I had to try to create one myself. To see how it would turn out I made this small version first, that way I could get a idea of how it would look, how to put it together and what parts of it I would need to change.

Having never created a pattern before I actually cheated a little. I started with a basic shape I liked the look of for the body, I then extended the neck and made the head rounder and slightly larger. I then had to design the feet, I actually used the Cornish Pixies feet as a guide for this. The ears and tail were simple enough to draw and the eyes for this little creature are simply just buttons.

Such an adorable and majestic creature, I totally fell for the Mooncalf after seeing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. It is a little surprising to me that this creature hasn't become more popular, with its beautiful big eyes and enchantingly adorable nature. This was so much fun to create and I do love how he turned out. I hope to create a larger version at some stage, but I will first have to decide how to create those lovely big eyes for him.
