Dress Pillows #1

I have a few nieces and nephews that I make gifts for and these, as this was the first of a few that were bundled together with a ribbon, were made for a couple of two year old girls. My sister had some baby clothes from her little girl that she wanted to keep as they were favourites, but she didn't just want to sit them in a box somewhere, so I thought why not make them into super cute and unique pillows. So that's what's I did, I made literal Dress Pillows.

It was really simple to make these Dress Pillows, I hand stitched the bottom edge and two sleeves of the dress while inside-out, then turned it right-side-out and stuffed. I began to stitch the neck and stuffed them some more, before adding even more stuffing before closing up the neck hole. I have added the tag 'dolls' to this post because, although these clearly are not doll's, my niece plays with them as though they are, she even has tea parties with these Dress Pillows.

Baby Rattle - Tool Set

This was simply something I created for a baby shower for a little someone special. A new baby boy with a handyman father, I thought what better gift to make then a set of tools. I looked around for a pattern of some sort but ended up making up a pattern of my own for these little rattles.

For the screwdriver I used two colours, a brown for the handle and a blue/grey for the actual head of the tool. I added red stitching to the handle for a bit of decoration and also a bit of grip. Inside the handle I added a small squeaker so that when squeezed it would create a cute sound.

To make the spanner I used the same blue/grey material, only this time I added a small rattle insert and placed it at one end of the spanner. That way you could grab it by the other end and shake it around to make its rattle sound.

The hammer was made in the same way as the screwdriver, using the brown material with red stitching for the handle and the blue/grey material for the hammer head. A small rattle insert was also used for the hammer to give a fun sound effect when shaken.

All three rattles were finished of with a tag sewn into them to give a more professional look and to also tie them together as a set. For these tags I used a ribbon with colourful baby feet printing. The finished rattles are about 8.5 inches tall, making them a comfortable size for little hands to hold, squeeze, put in their mouths, all the fun things babies do with their toys.

Random Necklace Design #1

Something a bit different for today is this random necklace design in blues with a few red highlights. The size of the ironed pendant piece is about 9 1/2 cm wide and about 6 cm high, but due to its butterfly like shape it gives the impression of being lighter and not as bulky as it might have been. It also feels very light to wear.

This is just a randomly designed symmetrical necklace created using iron beads on a square peg board. Any type of iron beads you prefer would work to create such a necklace, including perler, hama and pyssla. The finished ironed piece is then attached to a chain with jump rings, and finished with a lobster clasp.

Faery Rag Doll #4 mini doll

This is another mini version of my faery rag doll. This orange little beauty was another gift that has since found a new home. As with the others she has butterfly like wings, blanket stitched hair, tiny safety eyes glued on, stitched ear details that unfortunately do not show up that well in this picture, and an overall cuteness that I just adore.

These rag dolls of mine always make me smile, so much so that I plan to make more. Not just more faery dolls, but also more gnome dolls, possibly some mermaid dolls and maybe even a few others. I was thinking some witches for Halloween maybe!? I'll see what else I can come up with.
